JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An employee at a Jacksonville gas station was shot several times in the arm Thursday morning in an attempted armed robbery, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO's Sergeant Richardson says the employee whose identity was not released, is expected to be okay and is stable, as they were taken to a local hospital.
Richardson says officers responded to the Gate gas station, located at 5480 Collins Rd., at approximately 3 a.m. in reference to the incident.
"An unknown suspect entered the business armed with a handgun and he demanded money from the safe," Richardson told First Coast News.
Police say as the employee was putting money in a bag, the suspect fired several shots in their direction which struck the employee. There were no customers inside at the time.
"One employee resisted which may have caused the shooting," Richardson said.
The suspect then fled the area on foot in an unknown direction, according to Richardson. There were only two employees of the gas station present at the time, including the one that was shot, police say.
"We have limited information at this time, the only thing we know is [it was] an unknown male that was wearing a burgundy hoodie," Richardson said.
JSO says the suspect was also wearing dark-colored pants at the time.
Richardson says detectives responded to the scene, spoke with witnesses and have obtained video surveillance of the incident. However, he said the footage does not capture the suspect's face.
Anyone with information on the shooting, is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
