JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 32-year-old woman from early morning Saturday at a Roosevelt Boulevard gas station.
On May 4, at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers responded to the 4225 Roosevelt Blvd. where they found the victim, Demeshia Gainer, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a release.
Isaiah Hawkins, 33, was identified as a person of interest during the investigation, the agency said. The report said officers learned Hawkins had been in a relationship with Gainer since late 2023 and is believed to be the victim's child's father.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department also responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. The report said firefighters saw a man matching the suspect's description about a mile from the scene, the report said.
The arrest report said two cellphones were recovered from the scene. Police said the shooting occurred in front of several witnesses.
Hawkins was found Tuesday on Hershel Street towards San Juan Avenue after a traffic stop and taken to the Police Memorial Building for an interview. After speaking with detectives, Hawkins was arrested and charged with murder, JSO said.
