JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO) is asking for the public's help in identifying multiple suspects accused of taking part in a murder that happened in May, the agency announced Friday.
JSO says the murder occurred on May 26 in the 4600 block of Putnam Avenue, which is on Jacksonville's Southside, as a man was shot "while he was sitting inside [of] his vehicle, and he later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital."
According to police records, the man who was fatally shot is Stephon Douglas Yewitt, who was 32 years old.
Also on Friday, the sheriff's office released surveillance footage from "the area of the incident" that captures the suspects "fleeing the area on foot."
JSO Sergeant Henson told First Coast News in May shortly after that incident, that at 9:35 p.m. on the day of the murder, patrol officers responded to the 4600 block of Putnam Avenue regarding a crash. When they arrived, Henson said Yewitt was found inside his vehicle, "suffering from at least one gunshot wound."
"We believe the traffic crash was the result of the gunshot wound," Henson said. "At this time, we do not know the circumstances of this incident or the relationship of those involved."
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspects who are pictured below, is asked to contact JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously and be eligible for a reward up to $3,000, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
