JSO: Foul play suspected after person found dead in Jacksonville's Brentwood area

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says officers originally responded to the area in reference to a "well being check," but it later became a death investigation.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An "adult" was found dead Monday afternoon in Jacksonville's Brentwood area, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, as police say foul play is suspected.

JSO's Sergeant Reed says at 4:29 p.m., patrol officers responded to the 300 block of West 41st St. in reference to a "well being check."

"Investigation by officers at the scene led to the investigation becoming a death investigation," Reed said. "While conducting the investigation, a deceased person was located on the property."

Police say one person has been detained and taken to the Police Memorial Building downtown to be interviewed.

"At this time, we don’t know the circumstances of the incident or the relationships of those involved," Reed said.

Furthermore, the person's cause of death is unknown.

JSO's Homicide Unit detectives and its Crime Scene Unit detectives, the Medical Examiner's Office and State Attorney's Office are conducting the ongoing investigation, according to Reed.

The sheriff's office did not release the identity of the adult nor say whether they are a man or woman.

Anyone with information on the person's death is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500 or to remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
