BRUNSWICK, Ga. — A man is in custody after the Glynn County Police Department says he fired at a car and injured two people on Highway 17 Dec. 26.
In a social media post Friday, police said Jalen Cook, 21, was interviewed by officers and "confessed to the shooting." Cook was charged with four counts of aggravated assault and one charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Glynn County Police Department Officers responded to a call of a shooting which took place just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon near the Sydney Linear Bridge.
Based on witness reports, investigators determined two vehicles heading north on Highway 17 near the port pulled out in front of a vehicle — with a man, his wife and two small children inside — leading the man to slam on the brakes. One of the vehicles sped away, but a silver sedan pulled up beside the man’s vehicle and the driver fired shots.
The shooting resulted in the man being struck by the bullet and a woman in the front passenger seat being hit in the neck. The family went to the hospital where the woman received treatment for her wound, the post said. The man refused treatment and the children in the vehicle were not hurt.
Cook was later taken to Glynn County Detention Center. The report said the investigation is active.
