GLYNN COUNTY, Ga. — A woman was hospitalized Tuesday afternoon after her, her husband and their two children were shot at while their vehicle was stopped on Highway 17 in Brunswick, according to the Glynn County Police Department.
The police department says just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, near the Sidney Lanier Bridge, the Brunswick family was traveling north on Highway 17. Police say the husband told officers that while approaching the area of the port, two vehicles pulled out in front of the family's vehicle which led him to slam on his brakes.
After the Brunswick family's vehicle stopped, the police department says one of the vehicles sped away while the other, a silver sedan, pulled up beside the family's vehicle and fired multiple shots. One of the shots resulted in the man being struck, but police say the bullet only grazed him, while his wife in the font passenger seat, "was hit in the neck," according to a news release.
The family went to a local hospital, the police department says, where the woman received treatment for her wound. Her husband refused treatment and the children in the vehicle were not hurt, the release states.
The police department says the shooting is under an ongoing investigation as anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Criminal Investigations Division at 912-554-7802, call the police department's non-emergency number at 912-554-3645 or submit a tip anonymously via Silent Witness at 912-264-1333.
