AUGUSTA, Ga. — An Army National Guard soldier is facing murder charges in connection with a shooting at Fort Eisenhower that prompted a lockdown over the weekend.
Natravien Landry, 25, appeared in court Monday on charges of one count of murder after a shooting in a Fort Eisenhower residence Saturday, according to a release from the United States Attorney's Office Southern District of Georgia.
Court documents state Landry is a soldier assigned to the 1148th Transportation Company at Fort Eisenhower.
Landry is accused of visiting a woman he shares a child with at her residence in post-housing early Saturday morning. Authorities believe Landry assaulted and shot a man who was with the woman at the residence, the release states.
Landry was arrested Saturday on Interstate 85 during a traffic stop by the Meriwether County Sheriff's Office, roughly three hours south of Atlanta. Deputies located a 9mm pistol in Landry's possession during the stop.
Landry was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.
The incident prompted Fort Eisenhower to go on lockdown for around two hours Saturday morning as authorities investigated. Officials called the shooting a "tragedy" in a Facebook post on Saturday.
The Army Criminal Investigation Division is spearheading the investigation.
A detention hearing for Landry is set for Wednesday.
