JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A shooting at an apartment complex in Jacksonville's Arlington area Friday left a man injured and therefore, hospitalized following a "dispute," according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
JSO's Sergeant Dukes says at 12:27 p.m., an officer was at Lakeside Nest Apartments, located at 2681 University Blvd. North, when she heard "five to six gunshots being fired within the apartment complex."
Dukes says the officer requested backup, and when more officers arrived, a man in his mid-20s was found suffering from gunshot wounds. The man is currently in non-life-threatening condition, according to JSO.
The dispute which led to the shooting, happened at a park inside the complex, according to Dukes. She said "multiple people" were present and when shots rang out, the group scattered. Officers were able to establish a perimeter around the apartment complex which led to "three or four" people being detained.
It is unknown the relationship of those involved in the shooting, Dukes said.
"Right now, we are trying to determine what the cause of this was and who the primary aggressor was," Dukes told First Coast News. "As far as I know, we have several in custody, but I'm not sure the total number of people that were involved in the incident to begin with."
Detectives are interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance video, according to Dukes.
GRASP Academy and Lake Lucina Elementary were on lockdown, as a precaution, due to the police activity in the area, according to Duval County Public Schools.
