First Coast News has learned the identity of the passenger in the car with an Uber driver who was shot to death a couple of weeks ago on Jacksonville's Northside.
He is Antonio Tillie Jr., 19, according to a member of his family. Tillie was in an Uber driven by Bryant Grund, 31. Families of both men say Tillie was the target of the killers and Grund an innocent bystander.
Jacksonville police have given little information about the shooting other than police were called to the 7400 block of Kylan Drive West in response to reported gunfire at about 11:45 p.m. the night of the shooting. Responding officers found two men dead inside of the car.
"Antonio was imperfect ... he was loving and respectful," said the family member. "He liked to tell jokes. It really tore my family apart."
Because of escalating violence and retaliatory killings occurring in Jacksonville, the family member asked not to be identified.
"When is it going to stop?" the family member said. "It's sad for this man's family," Tillie's relative said about Grund. "This man, the Uber driver lost his life. ... when will it end?"
Grund was staying at an Extended Stay America hotel in Jacksonville where he was caring for his mother and two siblings, his mother told First Coast News. He was staying there for about six months.
“Our hearts ache for the victims of this horrific attack, and their loved ones continue to be in our thoughts. We are supporting law enforcement with their investigation and hope those responsible are brought to justice swiftly,” an Uber spokesperson said in a statement to First Coast News.
Tillie's family said they believe he was set up after texting with someone to meet up at the Northside location.
