JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three people, including a 16-year-old, are facing murder charges after a deadly shooting Wednesday night on Jacksonville's Southside.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 22-year-old Iago Nascimento and 18-year-old Erick Pereira on 2nd-degree murder charges Tuesday, less than a week after the deadly shooting on Amarante Circle. Police also arrested Samyr Cassimiro, 16, on 2nd-degree murder and accessory after the fact.
At approximately 10 p.m. on Wednesday, officers responded to the 9500 block of Amarante Circle in reference to a person shot. While on the way to the scene, officers received the description of a suspected vehicle that was seen by witnesses leaving the scene of the crime.
After canvassing the area, officers located a vehicle matching the vehicle description and conducted a traffic stop. The occupants were detained for questioning without incident, according to police.
As officers were detaining the suspects, crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department arrived on the scene to provide life-saving assistance to the victim, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Members of JSO's Homicide Team, Crime Scene Unit, and representatives with the State Attorney's office responded to the scene to conduct investigations.
Law enforcement spoke with witnesses and canvased the area for possible surveillance video.
After police concluded interviews and surveyed available evidence, the three individuals were arrested for murder.
Nascimento and Pereira are both being held in Duval County Jail on more than a $750,000 bond.
