JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two men are facing multiple charges, including felony murder, after an attempted armed robbery ended with a deadly shooting inside a Normandy apartment in February, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday.
Darius Person, 29, and Gabriel Woods, 23, are accused of shooting 28-year-old Lloyd Burgess, who police say was committing the armed robbery with Person and Woods at the time he was killed.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, officers responded to an apartment on the 1100 block of Lane Avenue South regarding reports of gunfire.
Upon arrival, officers located Burgess, and the Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department responded and pronounced him dead at the scene.
After an investigation conducted by JSO's Homicide and Crime Scene detectives, Person and Woods were identified as the two suspects involved in the armed robbery and Burgess' shooting death.
Woods was taken into police custody on unrelated charges and was interviewed on Tuesday. Investigators later obtained an arrest warrant for Person on Tuesday. He was apprehended by police and taken into police custody for an interview.
Person and Woods were subsequently arrested on charges of felony murder, attempted armed robbery and attempted armed burglary.
Both made their first appearance in Duval County court on Wednesday and are being held on no bond.
