JSO: 'Potential threat to the community' after man found shot to death inside Normandy apartment

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown and it is unclear whether a suspect is outstanding.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says there is a potential threat to the community after a man was found shot to death inside a Normandy apartment Tuesday afternoon.

Officers responded to the 1100 block of South Lane Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday regarding reported gunfire in the area. Investigators later learned there were several 911 calls to report gunfire in the area.

Upon arrival, officers were directed to a specific apartment to conduct a safety check and located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown, and it is unclear whether the shooting was an isolated incident.

"At this time, we are not sure if this is an isolated incident or not, there is potential threat to the community," said JSO Homicide Unit Sergent Steve Rudlaff. "We do not know the exact incident, and what took place, and if there is anyone outstanding."

Detectives with JSO's Homicide Unit and Crime Scene Units were on the scene Tuesday afternoon.

There does not appear to be forced entry to the apartment where the man was found, Rudlaff said, but added crime scene technicians are processing possible evidence to determine what took place.

Rudlaff said JSO is coordinating with the Medical Examiner's Office and the State Attorney's Office on the investigation.

No suspect is in police custody at this time.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact JSO at (904) 630-0500 or by email at jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org or contact First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
