JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An 18-year-old is facing murder charges in the November 2023 shooting death of a 16-year-old in Brentwood, according to a release from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Tuesday.
On Nov. 17, 2023, officers responded to a ShotSpotter call at a Brentwood park located at the 500 block of 28th Street West.
Police located 16-year-old Keon Walthall unresponsive with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After a review of scene evidence and interviews conducted by investigators, it was determined that the victim was killed during an attempted armed robbery of an unknown person, the release states.
JSO identified 18-year-old Za'Qwon Walthall as the person who coordinated the robbery, resulting in the shooting death of the victim. He faces charges of second-degree felony murder and two counts of attempted robbery.
First Coast News reached out to JSO regarding the relationship between the victim and suspect, due to the fact they share the same last name, and is waiting to hear back.
