City Rescue Mission opens cooling centers for those in need of relief from heat

Those in need of cooling shelter may check in to City Rescue Mission's New Life Inn, located at 234 West State St., Jacksonville, Florida, beginning at 11 a.m.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With temperatures climbing into the mid-90s and heat indices over 100 degrees, the heat will pose a risk for those without shelter this weekend.

That's why City Rescue Mission will open its cooling centers to those in need of relief from the heat.

"As the weather gets warmer, we will provide cooling centers open to the public," CRM Executive Director Paul Stasi said in a news release. "We want to make sure that our neighbors in need have cool shelter and a place to rest."

Those in need of cooling shelter may check in to CRM's New Life Inn, located at 234 West State St., Jacksonville, Florida, beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday. The shelter will continue to open for relief from the heat any additional days that the temperature will be 95 degrees or hotter, the release states.

People seeking shelter will also receive a hot meal and can access showers and clean clothing, according to the release.

"We are encouraging people to stay in for their safety during this hot weather," the release says.
