ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — After a multi-year wait and construction delays, the Outback Crabshack is reopening this weekend, accessible by car or boat.
After a few signs of progress in June, the restaurant began posting updates of construction work and hiring notices signaling a late summer opening. Now, Aug. 10 and Aug. 11 will see the restaurant reopen.
Located on the water at County Road 13 North, Outback Crabshack originally opened in the 1970s. Flooding from hurricanes Matthew and Irma in 2016 and 2017 shut it down and news went quiet for about four years.
But new owners stepped in and have been working to restore the property. There's a new deck, reworked interior and new signs.
Tasked with bringing the restaurant back to life is Margo Klar and Nathan Stuart. Stuart said in 2021 the restaurant would be six feet above the 100-year flood plain. The land owner and developer is Sleiman Enterprises.
