ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — There are signs of life at the Outback Crab Shack.
In the past couple of weeks, progress has been made on the outside of the building and the patio as the restaurant appears to creep closer to opening.
Wednesday night around 5 p.m., the Crab Shack's Facebook page posted pictures of new signs decorating the building.
The pictures also provide an up close look at the outdoor bar and seating area. Plus, look closely, and you'll see a sign for "free beer tomorrow."
The Crab Shack, nestled on the water on County Road 13 North, originally opened in the 1970's. Flooding from hurricanes Matthew and Irma shut it down.
Now, new owners have been working to restore the property for years.
Nathan Stuart and his wife, Margo Klar, spoke with First Coast News in July 2021. They said people often say they're crazy, investing in a spot that's flooded so much. But the restaurant and porch have lifted the building, and they said it's now safely above the flood plain.
“We wouldn’t get rid of that,” Klar said at the time. Her husband added, “We wouldn’t change a legend.”
