CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — All the animals part of a mass surrender from a Middleburg home two weeks ago have either been adopted or relocated to local rescues, a Clay County spokesperson announced Wednesday.
The last of the more than 100 animals surrendered left the temporary shelter at the Clay County Fairgrounds on Wednesday.
This comes after dozens of dogs and cats were surrendered to the county on Jan. 23. after the owners said they couldn't take care of them anymore.
The county said all the animals that were surrendered were healthy, aside from having minimal skin and ear issues.
The owner who surrendered the animals is not facing any criminal charges, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.
"We want to thank you for helping us get the word out about these animals in need of assistance. We appreciate everyone who helped share our information, volunteer, donate, and adopt," a county spokesperson wrote.
One of the dogs taken to a local rescue is Bronte, who is currently up for adoption at Clay County Animal Services.
The following rescues are where the remaining dogs were taken:
- Safe Animal Shelter Middleburg
- S.A.F.E. of St. Augustine
- Ana’s Angels
- Paw Paws pet rescue
- Puppy Hill Farm Animal Rescue
- Homemade Hounds
- Dogs and cats are also at Clay County Animal Services, available for adoption
