List: Events happening across Jacksonville on '904 Day'

The city of Jacksonville and Mayor Donna Deegan issued a proclamation for 904 Day on Sept. 4, 2023, as the day encourages people to support local businesses.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the page on the calendar has now turned over to September, two things are certain: football, both college and the NFL, is back, and the beloved unofficial, federal holiday many Jacksonvillians celebrate, '904 Day,' has also arrived!

The city of Jacksonville and Mayor Donna Deegan issued a proclamation for 904 Day on Sept. 4, 2023, as the day encourages people to support local businesses, organizations, destinations and experiences, all while paying homage to the 904 area code which serves the Jacksonville area.

"We've got a lot of things coming down the pipeline that I think makes it a really exciting time to be in Jacksonville," said Andrea Mestdagh, visitjacksonville.com's senior marketing communications manager. "With all of the riverfront development downtown, we've got some great new restaurants out at the beaches. There's a lot of things happening within our neighborhoods. It's just a really exciting time for Jacksonville who maybe might have been overlooked a little in the past compared to some other larger cities in Florida."

Mestdagh adds that there's been more people visiting and moving to the River City, making now an ideal time to learn how they can get involved in their neighborhood.

"It's the opportunity to visit different places," said Mestdagh. "But then, if you also just want to get out and explore because you just moved here, it's a great way to quickly visit a lot of different places to see the different things that we do have to offer."
