JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Right around the corner is a unique Jacksonville holiday: 904 Day.
On Sept. 4, the Sierra Club of Northeast Florida is hosting an urban hike through historic Durkeeville. The walk will visit multiple sites that were integral to the city's history and ones that helped form the city into the community that it is today.
Local filmmaker Michelle Maule will be leading the hike, which will start at 9 a.m. at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, located at 2503 N. Myrtle Ave. The hike will also continue along parts of the Emerald Trail's S-line and include a stop at the J.P. Small Baseball stadium, where Hank Aaron once played when he competed in the Negro Leagues prior to his Hall of Fame MLB career.
If you are interested in joining the hike you can sign up using this website.
Maule is also creating a documentary about the Northside and invites people to buy t-shirts celebrating Moncrief Springs in advance of the 904 Day hike. A link to those shirts is here.
