Weather cancels Jax River Jams, delays Clay County Fair opening

The Clay County Fair will not start until 4 p.m. Thursday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE: 4:50 p.m.

Inclement weather has canceled Thursday's iteration of Jax River Jams, though some of the acts will be playing in Downtown Jacksonville.

"Due to severe weather and in the best interest of public safety, the Jax River Jams production and safety partners have made the tough decision to cancel tonight's Jax River Jams," Organizers said in a release.

Hosted at 288 E. Bay St., Ford on Bay, the major headliners was singer-songwriter Bishop Briggs on Thursday; Earthgang on April 18 and Andy Grammar on April 25. Rodney Atkins played on April 4.

Organizers were "closely monitoring" the storm.

“The River Jams site was in no condition for an event this evening, given today’s earlier wind and rain, and the fact that high wind gusts are expected to continue throughout the evening,” said Alex Alston, Chief of Sports & Entertainment for the City of Jacksonville. “As a result, we did not know when our production team would be able to safely get on-site to set up – or even if they would have enough time to do so. Nor could we ensure their safety or the safety of the performers, our staff and volunteers, and our attendees, which is always our priority. Thank you for your understanding – we look forward to seeing you at next week’s show.”

Opening for Briggs is Coyboi, Kenzie's Place with Kale Raps and Future Joy. Coyboi will now play at 6 p.m. at Justice Pub and Kenzie's Place with Kale Raps and Future Joy will play Underbelly at 10 p.m. The concerts are still free.

In Clay County, the Clay County Fair Association, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, Clay County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service reviewed the safety of of fair volunteers, workers and guests and made the decision to delay the opening of the fair from 2 p.m. to 4 pm Thursday.
