Weather Impact Alert Day: Dangerous heat expected for Sunday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Most Accurate Weather Team™️  is issuing a Weather Impact Alert for Sunday due to high heat.

As we have seen the last few days, the heat continues to dominate with a high humidity. This will make for heat indices greater than 110 degrees at times. This is coupled with a heat advisory from the National Weather Service.

WHEN: Sunday, August 11, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. 

IMPACT: Heat index values in the dangerous range between 108-112 degrees during the peak heating of the day.

NEED: Stay hydrated, take plenty of breaks from the sun and the outdoors, avoid extended time outside without breaks or shade could lead to heat-related illnesses.

The City of Jacksonville activated its heat emergency plan Sunday, citing the maximum heat index is between 108 and 112 degrees. 

Cooling centers are open at the following locations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

  • Main Library, 303 N. Laura St. 
  • Legends Center, 5130 Soutel Dr.

Free transportation is being offered to cooling centers by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority.
