Tornado confirmed on Jacksonville's Southside

The rotating winds seen in videos and photos coming from residents on the Southside have now been confirmed as a tornado.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The rotating winds that caused a car to tumble through the air and the roof of a strip mall to be ripped off Friday have now been confirmed as an EF-1 tornado by the National Weather Service.

The tornado touched down on a 1.4 mile path on Jacksonville's Southside between 2:15 p.m. and 2:25 p.m.  The estimated peak wind reached 100 miles per hour, according to a preliminary NWS survey.

The car was flipped over on Beach Boulevard, and the roof damage was captured on video nearby. Viewers also submitted videos of trees down in the Grove Park neighborhood on the Southside.

There was a tornado warning in Duval County until 2:45 p.m. Friday.

The NWS says there were no injuries in this incident.
