As Hurricane Dorian approaches Florida, Comcast announced Friday it's opening up a network of free Xfinity WiFi hotspots for all Florida residents.
Comcast's network of almost 200,000 hotspots will be available in a variety of public places indoors and outdoors like shops, businesses and parks. This is to ensure that everyone stays connected throughout Dorian's impact.
One you are in range of a hotspot, select the “xfinitywifi_ForAll” network name in the list of available hotspots, launch a browser and a sign-on screen will appear.
If you are a non-Xfinity internet subscriber you will need to click the “Accept and Connect” button on the top half of the screen to get online. Those users will have to renew their sessions every two hours.
If you are an Xfinity internet customer, you must enter your account information on the bottom half of the screen and click the “Continue” button to get online. You will then automatically be connected to Xfinity WiFi hotspots in the future.
“We know it’s critically important for everyone to have a means of communication at their disposal before, during and after a storm with the potential impact of Hurricane Dorian,” said Amy Smith, senior vice president for Comcast’s Florida Region. “By activating our WiFi hotspot network in Florida now before the storm, we increase the chance that more people can stay connected. It’s something we’re proud to do for our communities at a time when we all need to support each other.”
