JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As Jacksonville experienced a flood warning Wednesday morning, roadways and yards in San Marco were hit by floodwaters. Flooding continued into Thursday.
Images show water creeping upward near San Marco Square and the homes in the neighborhood.
"#JSO getting reports of heavy flooding in the San Marco (Boulevard) and Lasalle (Street) - officers responding to assist motorists," The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said in a social media post.
According to Floridadisaster.org, be sure to avoid areas subject to flooding, do not attempt to cross flowing water, never drive through flooded roadways, leave a stalled vehicle immediately and never try to walk through or allow children to play around flood water.
The agency also recommends the following after a flood:
- Do not visit disaster areas, your presence may hamper emergency operations.
- Throw out food that has come into contact with the floodwater and boil drinking water before using it.
- Stay out of buildings that remain in flood waters.
- Do not handle live electrical equipment in wet areas.
- If the power is out, use flashlights to examine buildings. Flammables may be inside.
- Report broken utilities to the correct authorities.
