List: County-by-county school closures across the First Coast due to severe weather Tuesday

SCHOOL DISTRICTS CLOSED | Duval, Nassau, Clay, Glynn, Baker, Ware, Camden, Union, Columbia and Bradford.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Check back on this story for updates as they become available. 

Weather conditions on Tuesday are expected to bring gusty winds, with the possibility of strong to severe storms beginning in the afternoon. Damaging wind gusts of 50-70 mph along with small hail and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. 

Timing overall looks to be mid-late afternoon with the stormiest window for the area between Noon and 7 pm.

School districts in Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia are preparing due to the possible threat of severe weather across the First Coast. Here's a county-by-county list of districts closed in our area.

Glynn County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

Glynn County Schools announced Monday afternoon that all school sites will be closed to students and staff on Tuesday, Jan. 9 due to the threat of severe weather. All after-school and extracurricular activities are also canceled on Tuesday.

Glynn County Schools wants parents and students to continue monitoring their emails, the GCS social media pages, and GCS website for weather alerts and updates as they develop.

Nassau County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

All Nassau County School District schools will be closed Tuesday. All before and after-school activities are also canceled on Tuesday, Jan. 9. 

Classes will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 10, weather permitting.

Duval County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

All Duval County schools and after-school activities are canceled Tuesday, Jan. 9, due to severe weather.

Schools will reopen Wednesday, weather permitting.  

  • Jacksonville Country Day School will also be closed Tuesday, Jan. 9. All extended care and enrichment activities were also canceled.
  • The University of North Florida is canceling all classes, online and in-person, Tuesday, Jan. 9, in anticipation of severe weather. University offices will also be closed. All activities and events scheduled on campus were also canceled. UNF plans to resume normal school operations on Jan. 10. 
  • The Bolles School will be closed Tuesday and all after-school activities are canceled.

St. Johns County - EARLY RELEASE

All St. Johns County School District schools will have a one-hour early release on Tuesday. All afternoon activities, including sports, are canceled Tuesday due to severe weather.

The monthly School Board meeting scheduled for Tuesday is canceled and will be moved to next Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 4 p.m.

St. Johns River State College will close all campuses and cancel in-person classes at 12 p.m. Tuesday. Events scheduled on campus are canceled and the Thrasher-Horne Center is also closed.

Parents and students are encouraged to stay current on weather alerts at the St. Johns County School District website.

Ware County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

Due to severe weather, all Ware County Schools and central offices will be closed Tuesday. All afternoon activities are canceled on Tuesday. The school district will provide updates and alerts on its website and Facebook page.

Union County - SCHOOLS CLOSED 

All Union County schools and the Tiger Den will be closed on Tuesday due to the threat of severe weather. The school closure will extend to after-school activities scheduled on Tuesday. 

The district plans to resume school and activities on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Camden County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

All Camden County Schools will be closed Tuesday due to severe weather.

Clay County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

All Clay County schools and district offices will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 9, due to severe weather. Schools will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

St. Johns River State College will close all campuses and cancel in-person classes at 12 p.m. Tuesday. Events scheduled on campus are canceled and the Thrasher-Horne Center is also closed.

Columbia County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

All Columbia County schools closed Tuesday to students, teachers and staff. All extra-curricular and after-school activities are also canceled Tuesday. 

The district has also canceled the school board meeting scheduled for Tuesday and was rescheduled for Jan. 23. 

Schools will resume for students on Wednesday, Jan. 10, weather permitting.

Baker County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

All Baker County schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 9, due to severe weather. 

School and transportation services will resume on Wednesday, Jan. 10.

Bradford County - SCHOOLS CLOSED

All Bradford County schools will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 9.

Flagler County - AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES CANCELED

All after school activities at every school, including athletics, is canceled Tuesday due to severe weather expected in the late afternoon.

Schools will observe regular classroom hours and release at their regularly scheduled time.

The G.W. Carver Center and the Flagler County Youth Center will also observe their regular hours of operation.
