JEA crews respond to power outages, homeowners clean up after Tropical Storm Debby hits Jacksonville

“I thought I had escaped without doing much yard work, but I got a lot to do now," Darryl Dyal, a homeowner, said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — JEA crews spent Tuesday morning restoring power to hundreds of customers, after Tropical Storm Debby brought trees down onto power lines across the first coast.

Crews cleared trees and restored power to customers on Fort George Island as homeowners prepare for clean up after the storm.

“I thought I had escaped without doing much yard work, but I got a lot to do now," Darryl Dyal, a homeowner, said.

Dyal spent Tuesday morning without power, after a tree limb fell onto a power line near his home on Fort George Island. The limb came crashing down after Tropical Storm Debby passed through the area.

“We thought we had escaped without anything happening and then later on after everything looked like it calmed down, everything was soaking wet and then that’s when the limbs started falling," Dyal said.

His home is one of thousands that JEA responded to after the storm. Crews worked with tree services to cut up branches, remove debris, and reconnect power lines. Officials say by noon, over 110,000 customers had power restored.

“Our crews worked as quickly as they can. We restored power to more than 110-thousand customers within 24 hours of the storm, so we really just want to thank customers for they’re patience through all of this," Karen McAllister, Public Information Officer at JEA, said.

And with his power back on, Dyal says his post-storm clean up can begin.

“Ima work in the yard all day," Dyal said.
