Jacksonville Humane Society staff reads to dogs to keep them calm during storm

Jax Humane uses reading to soothe shelter dogs often. In fact, kids can sign up to come and read to the animals on a typical day.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Severe weather plagued Jacksonville throughout the day Tuesday.

While thunder, wind and rain are surely stressful for animals, the Jacksonville Humane Society had a plan to keep their residents calm.

Staff members worked as 'Pawsitive Readers' for the day, reading stories to the pets.

Jax Humane says a person reading out loud to an animal can lower their stress.

The Pawsitive Reader program is year-round at the Humane Society. Typically, they invite kids to read to the animals, but staff members were quick to fill in Tuesday.
