What to know about federal aid after Ian

FEMA relief is authorized for select counties with some of the worst damage from Ian.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — President Biden approved a federal disaster declaration for several counties in Southwest Florida. This allows for residents in those counties to seek FEMA assistance.

The counties include Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Hardee, Hillsborough, Lee, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota. Residents and business owners who sustained losses in the designated areas can begin applying for assistance here. They can also call 800-621-FEMA (3362), or use the FEMA App.

Floridians in all 67 counties, the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida and the Seminole Tribe of Florida are available to receive federal funding for cost like debris removal and emergency protective measures “at 100% of the total eligible costs for a period of 30 days,” according to a release from FEMA.

Additionally, federal funding is available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.
