49 Florida counties now under State of Emergency ahead of Hurricane Idalia

As of Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis has increased the number of Florida counties under a State of Emergency to 49. A number of those counties are on the First Coast.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE Tuesday 12 p.m.: The governor has added three more counties to the list. This story has been edited to reflect this change.

Gov. Ron DeSantis issued an executive order expanding the number of counties under a state of emergency in preparation for Hurricane Idalia from 33 counties to 46 counties. The following counties are listed:

Alachua, Baker, Bay, Brevard, Bradford, Calhoun, Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Franklin, Gadsden, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Hardee, Hernando, Hillsborough, Lake, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Putnam, Nassau, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns, Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union, Volusia, and Wakulla counties.

The state of emergency declaration allows state officials to make critical resources available to the 46 counties named. Those resources included law enforcement, health and human services and the Florida Department of Transportation.
