UPDATE: #Matthew is now a category 5 #hurricane, the first in the Atlantic basin since Felix of 2007
GREENSBORO, NC -- Hurricane Matthew is gaining size as it moves west through the central Caribbean.
Friday midday, the storm was a powerful Category 3 hurricane with sustained winds of 115 mph and was tracking west-southwest at 12 mph.
The current forecast has Matthew taking a turn to the northwest over the weekend and then to pass through Jamaica and Cuba as a category three hurricane with winds stronger that 115 mph into the beginning of next week.
After that, the track of the system is very uncertain. It's too early to say if the storm will have a direct impact on the United States, but if it does, it could be a strong hurricane. Anyone from Florida northward along the East Coast, should monitor Matthew's progress closely.
