Florida water restrictions change as clocks fall back

Addresses in the St. Johns River Water Management District have been assigned one specific day a week to water

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Daylight Saving Time comes to an end Sunday, Nov. 3, at 2 a.m. With the time change, the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) issues new water restrictions.

Counties on the First Coast should only water once a week during Local Standard Time, which runs from November to mid-March. There is to be no watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The irrigation days implemented by SJRWMD are as follows:

  • Saturday: Residential addresses ending in odd numbers or with no address
  • Sunday: Residential addresses ending in even numbers
  • Tuesday: Non-residential properties

Restrictions apply to water withdrawn from ground or surface water, from a private well or pump, or from a public or private utility.

In addition to saving water, cutting back on water use helps your yard, too. Lawns don't need as much water in the cooler months, and reducing the amount of irrigation can reducing the risk of mold, fungus, weak roots, weeds and pests, according to SJRWMD.

For Georgia counties, there is a restriction on watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. during non-drought conditions.
