'Wetter than normal' | Florida expected to have rainier February

The expected average rainfall in Jacksonville for February is 2.86 inches. The CPC says there is a 50-60% chance we receive more rain than that.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) has released their February outlook, and they are calling for a wetter than normal month in Florida and southeast Georgia.

The expected average rainfall in Jacksonville for February is 2.86 inches. The CPC says there is a 50-60% chance we receive more rain than that.

As for temperatures, the CPC expects February to feel normal on the First Coast. Climatologically speaking, the average high for the month is 68.9 degrees and the average low is 46.1 degrees. Afternoons are normally around 67 degrees at the beginning of the month and 72 degrees by the end.

The prediction of near average temperatures isn't to say we won’t get cold snaps and short-term warmups like the First Coast is used to, it just says the overall average monthly temperature should be fairly typical.

The CPC has also given a glance at what the first half of February could feel like on the First Coast. For Feb. 5-9, it is forecast to be slightly cooler than normal. Average highs during that time are 67 to 68 degrees.

A rise of mercury in thermometers is expected Feb. 8-14, where the CPC says it is expected it to be warmer than normal on the First Coast, which would mean warmer than 68 degrees.
