JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As wind and rain pelt the first coast, weather authorities issue flood warnings for North Florida and Southeast Georgia.
The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Baker, Duval, Nassau and Union counties through 11 a.m. this morning. NWS Jacksonville estimates that 2-4" of rain have fallen so far and an additional 2-3" of rained are possible. That flood warning is extended until 1 p.m. in Brantley, Glynn and Wayne counties in southeast Georgia.
Additionally, the National Weather Service is warning of strong winds in the area, with peak gusts of 35 to 50 mph, estimating a peak between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. A wind advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m.
After high winds overnight, several Deck the Chairs displays in Jacksonville Beach were overturned. Event organizer Kurtis Loftus has cancelled the event until Tuesday to keep attendees away from the high winds and to allow his team to assess damages. You can see her report here.
