FHP: Florida 12-year-old boy among 2 dead after driver loses control during Hurricane Debby

Florida Highway Patrol says a 14-year-old boy suffered serious injuries in the crash as well.

DIXIE COUNTY, Fla. — A 12-year-old boy is among two dead following a single-vehicle crash in Dixie County Sunday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP says the crash happened at approximately 9:25 p.m. on U.S. 19, as a 38-year-old Crawfordville woman "lost control due to the inclement weather and wet roadway."

After losing control, the SUV the woman was driving, struck the guardrail in the center median, re-directed, overturned, then left the roadway to the right, according to the FHP crash report.

The woman and the 12-year-old boy were pronounced dead on the scene, troopers say.

FHP says a 14-year-old boy who was another passenger in the SUV, suffered serious injuries in the crash; he was taken to UF Health.

The crash is currently under investigation, the report states.
