LEVY COUNTY, Fla. — At least six people have been killed during Tropical Storm Debby, including two children. Five are in Florida and one in Georgia.
The Levy County Sheriff's Office said Monday that a 13-year-old boy was killed when a tree fell on a mobile home in Levy County.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with this family as they deal with this tragedy," the sheriff’s office said in a statement. "We encourage everyone to use extreme caution as they begin to assess and clean up the damage. Downed powerlines and falling trees are among the many hazards."
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said a driver was killed there when a semitruck went into a canal off Interstate 275 Monday morning. Deputies say they found the semi with the driver dead inside the cab.
The Florida Highway Patrol says a driver in Dixie County lost control due to the "inclement weather" on Sunday night. They crashed into the center median guardrail and the car flipped, killing the 38-year-old woman who was driving and a 12-year-old boy who was riding in the car. There was also a 14-year-old boy in the car, who was seriously injured, FHP said.
ABC Tampa affiliate WFTS is reporting that a 48-year-old man died in Gulfport after he tried to ride out the storm inside his sailboat.
In Moultrie, Georgia, a 19-year-old was struck and killed by a fallen tree while he was inside his home, police said.
