JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A new cruise line could soon be calling Jacksonville home.
At a meeting Monday, JAXPORT CEO Eric Green said he hoped to announce something in the coming weeks. Jaxport is currently homeport to the 2,400-capacity Carnival Elation, which heads to the Bahamas on four-to-six day trips.
"This is an added service coming from another cruise line," Green said.
Green asked for a special board meeting Friday to discuss the matter. He said another cruise line was seeking to add service at the Jan. 22 meeting and were not able to do so in time.
"We asked the company could bring it to a February board meeting, but the company is anxious and asking us to see if we could pull together a special board meeting," Green told board members.
Norwegian Cruise Line did have "Jacksonville Coming Soon" on its website, according to various media reports.
