FORT PIERCE, Fla. — People traveling through Florida will have one more tasty destination to add to the route.

After Beaver nugget-fueled rumors started swirling last fall, a St. Lucie County commissioners meeting confirmed on Tuesday that progress is being made on a new Buc-ee's location.

Commissioners this week voted to change the county's signage rules to allow Buc-ee's to build a 100-foot sign.  That towering sign will mark the new location planned for Indrio Road and I-95 in Fort Pierce.

Previous documents acquired by the TCPalm showed plans for a 73,000-square-foot building with 733 parking stalls, 11 bus parking stalls and 120 fueling stations — plenty of space for Buc-ee's signature Texas barbeque, rows of snacks and a selection of one-of-a-kind beaver-adorned merchandise.

The first Florida Buc-ee's opened in February 2021 in St. Augustine. The second opened just a month later in Daytona Beach with the help of Gov. Ron DeSantis.

At the time, the governor said Buc-ee's is "like the Shangri-La of service stations" with its friendly staff, pristine bathrooms and various accommodations.

Another Florida location — set to be larger than the current "world's largest Buc-ee's"— is scheduled to open in Ocala in 2025.

The convenience store offers thousands of snack, drink and meal options for on-the-go travelers and Floridians alike. Some fan favorites are homemade fudge, kolaches, Beaver nuggets and fresh pastries.

If they haven't already, Floridians will come to love the friendly sight of that smiling beaver, as Buc-ee's has redefined traveling for customers across the South. Since it was founded in 1982, Buc-ee's has made its mark across Texas. In recent years, the gas station has opened locations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee.
