UPDATE: Bridges remain open for now, JSO warns of impending closures

If conditions get to that point JSO said that you should have a plan ready. Make sure you stay prepared.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is warning those evacuating ahead of Hurricane Dorian that once bridges close, they will remain closed for the duration of the storm.

Tuesday’s 5 a.m. update by the National Hurricane Center shows the storm stationary near Grand Bahama Island as a Category 3 storm with 120 mph max sustained winds.

Bridges in Jacksonville need to see 40 mph max sustained winds for at least a minute to shut down. All bridges remain open at this time.

First Coast News' Katie Jeffries says that you should be where you need to be by the end of the evening on Tuesday.

Jeffries explains exactly what needs to happen for a bridge to be closed and how that would impact travel in the area in the video below.
