Customers wait hours in rental car lines at Jacksonville International Airport

With so many flight cancellations, passengers are looking into other options to make it to their destinations. Some said the wait was longer than their flight time.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With so many flight cancellations, many passengers are looking into other options to make it to their destinations. That is leading to long lines at the car rental counters where people are looking to book vehicles.

Travelers at Jacksonville International Airport say they waited more than 30 minutes to find out if they can even get a car Tuesday afternoon.

"It took longer to get our rental car than it did to fly here," Traveler Kevin McAndrews said.

Kevin McAndrews traveled from Houston to Jacksonville and says he stood in the AVIS rental car line at Jacksonville International Airport for 90 minutes before finally making it to the desk.

"They said for whatever reason, our preferred number, didn't sync with our reservation for whatever reason even after showing our preferred account they still wouldn't help us, so we had to get in line with everyone else.," McAndrews said.

Other customers say they had advance reservations but still had to wait with everyone else requesting cars.

"Then when our cars were ready, they told us it would take 30 minutes to clean them," McAndrews said.

The lines at Hertz, Enterprise, Budget and Dollar car rentals stayed pretty short Tuesday afternoon. Jacksonville International Airport has seven companies offering car rentals to travelers. McAndrews says he is an AVIS Preferred customer and wishes for better customer service.

"We come here a couple times a year. Its usually pretty easy but today was not their best," McAndrews said.

As of 6 p.m. Tuesday, all seven companies offering rental cars had cars available for rental.
