Two people are dead after two separate crashes involving a semi-truck and a pedestrian on Jacksonville's Westside on Thursday evening.
Troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol say that Emmanuel Luis Carmona, 34, and Thomas Evans, 30, were killed in the crashes near on I-295 and Collins Road around 11 p.m.
Troopers say that Carmona was driving a yellow and black Suzuki motorcycle directly behind a semi-truck and didn't slow down as traffic patterns changed. Carmona crashed into the back of the truck and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Minutes later, a Toyota Camry was traveling northbound on Interstate 295 and was approaching the collision that had just occurred ahead. The motorcycle and truck were blocking the Camry's path of travel and the car veered right to avoid striking that motorcycle. The front bumper of the Camry collided with a pedestrian that was walking in the northbound lane back to his parked car.
Evans went over the roof of and down the rear of the trunk, coming to final rest laying in the right merge lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Northbound lanes of I-295 were blocked Thursday night for investigation but have since reopened.
