HILLIARD, Fla. — Crews were on the scene Monday morning of an accident in Hilliard on Smith Road. A flatbed truck was partially on a railroad track there at about 6:30 a.m. when it was hit by an oncoming train, according to the Nassau County Sheriff's Office.
A new report shows that the driver of the car was an 80-year-old man. He crashed into an electrical box and his car ended up on the tracks. The left rear tire was stuck on the train track.
The report says that both the conductor and engineer attempted to slow down and stop the train to avoid the collision, but were not able to.
According to Amtrak, vehicle was unoccupied at the time.
The train was traveling from Lorton, Virginia when in came in contact with the vehicle.
No injuries were reported.
