PALM COAST, Fla. — Update: As of 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, the scene has cleared as I-95 northbound and southbound lanes have reopened.
Due to an early Thursday morning crash involving a semi-truck, all Interstate 95 northbound lanes from Matanzas Woods Parkway to Palm Coast Parkway in Flagler County are currently closed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
In addition to the northbound closure, the southbound lanes of I-95 are also experiencing a lane closure due to the accident but are currently passable.
No injuries were reported in the crash as FHP says at 5:02 a.m., a 19-year-old Jacksonville man and driver of a sedan, was traveling south on I-95 in the left lane when, for undetermined reasons, he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to leave the roadway and struck the center guardrail.
The FHP crash report further states that after striking the guardrail, the vehicle came to a final resting point in the right southbound lane. A few moments later, a semi-truck was traveling south and was unable to see the teen driver and a 46-year-old passenger's vehicle disabled in the roadway. The front of the semi-truck impacted the rear of the sedan, causing it to be pushed into the tree line onto the right shoulder.
As a result, the semi-truck veered to the left and continued through the center guardrail where it came to final rest across all three northbound lanes. A small amount of hazardous materials were spilled onto the northbound lanes, the report states.
Drivers traveling through Palm Coast should be advised to use an alternate route as delays are expected on I-95.
According to a news release from the city of Palm Coast, emergency response teams are on scene, working diligently to clear the area.
