JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Downtown Jacksonville drivers may need to take a detour to the Hart Bridge starting on Monday.

For the next month, the intersection of A. Philip Randolph Boulevard at East Bay Street will be closed as JEA crews install two chilled water mains along the road.

JEA said the intersection will close for the safety of the crews and the public.

JEA crews are installing water systems that will supply chilled water to commercial buildings from a central plant using underground pipes. The chilled water is also used to provide air conditioning to the buildings.

The project will not impact normal water, sewer or electrical services.

JEA said crews are completing the project ahead of football season "due to the anticipated increase in traffic near the stadium."

The road closure is scheduled to begin on Monday and will go through Aug. 9, according to JEA. Crews will work from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and the work area will remain closed until the project is completed.

"Please observe all construction signs, detours and general directions provided by the crews working on-site. We apologize for any inconvenience this construction work may cause," JEA said.
