One person has died and two others were taken to the hospital following a head-on crash in Hastings Friday night, according to Chuck Mulligan, the spokesperson for the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.
The crash happened around 9 p.m. outside of Mt. Olive Baptist Church at 8250 County Road 13. As of 9:40 p.m., both directions of the road were closed.
The road was reopened around 3 a.m. Saturday after crews cleared the scene.
Mulligan said one vehicle didn't stay in its lane, lost control and collided head-on into the other vehicle. One of the vehicles caught overturned and caught on fire. Firefighters were able to put out the fire.
One of the injured people was flown to a hospital in Jacksonville while the other was flown to Daytona, Mulligan said. Both have significant injuries.
