Semi-truck crash on I-95 near County Road 210 in St. Johns County causes hourslong closure

Florida Highway Patrol said the semi-truck was loaded with paint and that it rear-ended a van.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A crash involving a semi-truck on Interstate 95 in St. Johns County early Thursday morning, prompted all northbound lanes near the county line with Duval to close for hours.

St. Johns County Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post that the semi-truck overturned on I-95 at mile marker 331, which is just north of County Road 210.

"Command is reporting no injuries," the post states.

A Florida Highway Patrol crash report on the incident states the semi-truck was traveling in the middle lane on the interstate when it rear-ended a "red transit van" that was driving directly in front of it.

"For unknown reasons, the transit van began to decrease its speed in the center lane," post states.

The report further mentions that the van "was unable to slow down."

As a result of the collision, FHP said the driver of the semi-truck, a 40-year-old Jacksonville man, swerved to the left. Afterward, the left side of the semi-truck "struck the guardrail in the center median... rotated clockwise and overturned in the roadway," according to the report.

The semi-truck came to final rest "within and obstructing the northbound lanes of Interstate 95 northbound facing eastbound," while the van came to final rest in the northbound middle lane, according to FHP.
