JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three people are dead following two separate, fatal crashes in Clay County Friday evening, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP says both crashes were on US-17 northbound between CR 220 and Creighton Road.
The first crash happened at 5:10 p.m. on US-17 at Los Palmas Drive, according to FHP.
A 77-year-old man driving a sedan was making a left turn into private drive at 4689 US-17 from southbound US-17 when troopers say the man failed to yield the right of way and traveled into the direct path of another car.
The 77-year-old man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead, says FHP. The people in the other vehicle were not injured.

The second crash happened at 5:10 p.m. on US-17 north of Raggedy Point Road.
FHP says a van was traveling southbound on US 17 north of Raggedy Point Road, in the inside lane and another vehicle was traveling northbound on US 17 north of Raggedy Point Road, in the outside lane.
Troopers say for unknown reasons, the 56-year-old driver failed to maintain control of his vehicle and crossed the center grass median, traveling into the northbound lanes of US 17. It then crossed the northbound travel lanes, leaving the roadway and traveling onto the outside shoulder.
Troopers say the front left of the vehicle collided with the front left of a second vehicle.
The 56-year-old male driver of the van and a 38-year-old male driver of the second vehicle died in the crash, FHP says.
