St. Augustine man killed in fiery crash on SR-9B at I-95

The front of the vehicle hit the SR-9B southbound concrete overpass, causing the vehicle to catch on fire, an FHP report says.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — (Note: The video above originally aired before the crash was confirmed to be a fatality.)

A St. Augustine man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on State Road 9B early Monday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The victim, a 37-year-old man, was driving an SUV on the 9B exit ramp to Interstate 95 northbound around 5:45 a.m., when the vehicle ran off the road to the right, according to a report from FHP. The front of the vehicle hit the SR-9B southbound concrete overpass, causing the vehicle to catch on fire, the report says.

The victim was taken to UF Health Jacksonville, where he was pronounced dead, according to the report.

The report does not say what may have caused the driver to run off the road.
