A 77-year-old man is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Middleburg Tuesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers say the crash happened at Blanding Boulevard and Palmetto Street around 6:30 a.m. near Middleburg High School, which briefly caused lanes to close during morning rush hours. Lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.
Troopers say that a black Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Palmetto Street approaching the intersection of State Road 21 when a 77-year old pedestrian was walking southbound on the sidewalk.
The pedestrian approached Palmetto St with the intention to cross. The Silverado stopped at the red light and began to turn northbound onto State Road 21 as the pedestrian was crossing the road. As a result, the front area of car struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk.
They said he died at the scene. Troopers have not released the name of the man killed.
