Motorcyclist killed in wreck near Airport Road in Jacksonville

The accident happened around 12:50 a.m. Sunday on Airport Service Road. Authorities were still trying to reach the next of kin of the rider early Sunday.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead following an accident at around 12:50 a.m. Sunday on Airport Service Road in Jacksonville. Police say the victim was riding a touring-style motorcycle westbound on Airport Service Road, a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office news release states.

A pickup truck and an SUV were traveling eastbound on the service road. The pickup attempted to turn left to get onto the main portion of Airport Road causing the motorcycle to hit the truck, the news release states. The motorcycle was then redirected into the SUV. The motorcycle rider was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said he was wearing his helmet. No other injuries were reported.

There have been 15 fatal wrecks involving motorcyclists this year in Duval County, according to JSO.
