Motorcyclist dies in crash on Collins Road

The motorcyclist collided with an SUV. Police are still determining who was at fault.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 31-year-old man was killed in a crash in the 8000 block of Collins Road Thursday.

He was riding a motorcycle eastbound on Collins Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said. A small SUV was traveling westbound on Collins and attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Westport Road.

The two vehicles collided, and the man was ejected from his motorcycle. He was sent through the air and landed on the concrete.

He was treated by Jacksonville Fire & Rescue on the scene and taken to Orange Park Medical Center, but later died.

The driver stopped and stayed on the scene. Police say there was no sign of impairment. They do not think speed was a factor because the car turned from a standstill.

Witnesses are being interviewed at this time, and fault is being determined.

This is the 161st traffic fatality in Jacksonville in 2023.
